Social Security Advocates LLC Helps More Clients as the Economy Tightens its Grip on Working Residents

Social Security Advocates LLC Helps More Clients as the Economy Tightens its Grip on Working Residents

ORLANDO, Fla. – When the going gets tough, the familiar adage has it that the tough also get going. And, that’s just what representatives at Social Security Advocates LLC have been doing as more and more workers turn to them for help in gaining disability benefits.

“When the economy is in reverse, more people file for disability,” says Jessica Carrasquillo, a former paralegal who started the company in Cleveland, Tenn. in 2005.

And more filings translate into increased business for Social Security Advocates which opened an Orlando location last year at the Orlando Business Development Center on East Colonial Drive, one of five University of Central Florida Incubation Program locations.

“We’re kind of a recession-proof company; we tend to do well in a bad economy,” Carrasquillo says. “Most people don’t know where to turn or what to do to even begin to file for benefits. That’s where we can help.”

Carrasquillo, a paralegal for 20 years, spent 11 years handling Social Security disability claims for a large law firm. Jeanette Roman, who has 18 years of experience in the same field, runs the Orlando office of Social Security Advocates.

Roman met Carrasquillo 15 years ago while working at an Orlando law firm. The two later co-hosted an Orlando radio show for that law firm, which also helped clients with Social Security issues.

They saw the same thing happening again and again for those trying filing claims: Claim denied; appeal denied; client gives up.

“People have real issues and they deserve personal attention,” Carrasquillo said. “Our clients are individuals with unique problems; they’re not just numbers. And, we get to know them and what they’re going through so we can effectively help them.”

A new company website – www.socialsecurity-advocates.com – often is the first step for clients interested in pursuing a claim. There they will find information on what the company can do for them and answers to important questions.

Social Security Advocates does not charge a fee – other than administrative costs – unless benefits are obtained, Roman said. The company also boasts a 97 percent success rate in obtaining benefits for its clients throughout the United States.

As a full-service agency, Social Security Advocates handles everything for the client, including gathering medical records and filling out all forms, communicating with the appropriate agencies and attending hearings on behalf of clients.

“We do all that for them,” Carrasquillo said. “They already have enough to worry about.”
To find out if you are eligible for disability benefits, contact Roman or Carrasquillo at Social Security Advocates, 321-281-8376 or 423-473-6714, or visit the company’s website at www.socialsecurity-advocates.com.

UCF Business Incubation Program Identifies More Than 1,600 Area Jobs it helped to create with Earnings of More than $70 Million

UCF Business Incubation Program Identifies More Than 1,600 Area Jobs it helped to create with Earnings of More than $70 Million

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program, which currently supports nearly 70 startup companies at five Central Florida incubation sites in downtown Orlando, east Orlando, Winter Springs and the UCF campus, reports its efforts have helped to generate more than 1,600 new jobs in the Central Florida region with combined earnings of more than $70 million.

Dr. Tom O’Neal, founder and executive director of the UCF Business Incubation Program, said that’s just a start. “Currently, client companies of the UCF Business Incubation Program employ 340 professionals,” O’Neal said.

Thirty-one Central Florida companies that have graduated from the program currently employ 490 individuals, O’Neal added.

The net effect of that job growth creates almost the same number of “ripple” jobs to support these new businesses, O’Neal said.

Orlando-based Real Estate Research Consultants, Inc. conducted a study of the economic impact of the UCF Business Incubation Program job growth in the region, O’Neal said, and used an industry standard calculation known as RIMS II multipliers to determine the number of “ripple” jobs created.

The UCF Business Incubation Program’s area economic impact goes beyond job growth, O’Neal explained.

“The job growth we helped to create here will generate as much as $14 million in new ad valorem revenues over the next 20 years in Orange County alone,” O’Neal said. In Seminole County, new ad valorem revenues resulting from the UCF Business Incubation Program are estimated at almost $4 million.

In addition, Orange and Seminole County schools will collect more than $28 million from the new job growth, O’Neal said.

The UCF Business Incubation Program, which initially focused on emerging technology companies, has expanded to include startup businesses of almost every stripe except retail and lifestyle.

“Most startup companies can benefit from a successful incubation program, but not all,” O’Neal said. “We aren’t equipped to adequately serve consumer product retail or lifestyle companies because the dynamics of those businesses don’t fit well in an incubator environment,” he said.

The award-winning UCF Business Incubation Program, which opened its doors 10 years ago, now ranks as one of the most successful incubation programs in the U.S.

Eginity Invited to Present at Florida Venture Forum Early Stage Venture Capital Conference May 15

Eginity Invited to Present at Florida Venture Forum Early Stage Venture Capital Conference May 15

ORLANDO, Fla. - Eginity, an Orlando-based company that specializes in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology, has been invited to showcase itself at the Florida Venture Forum 2009 Early Stage Venture Capital Conference May 15 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.

Rob Allen, president and co-founder of the one-year-old start-up firm, said he’s confident that Eginity’s new EON Platform – an end-to-end WSN solution – will get a lot of attention from venture capital investors.

“The WSN market is substantial,” Allen said. “WSN has already been spotlighted by leading IT researchers as one of the top 10 technology growth sectors through 2012,” he added.

“WSN technology gives an IP-address to an object, making it ‘smart’ – meaning it can gather and transmit information about its condition or environment over the Internet,” explained Allen. “Although WSNs are used extensively in defense and industrial settings, high costs have limited use in other areas. The EON Platform eliminates this issue, paving the way for the development of hundreds of new ‘smart’ commercial applications,” he said.

“Eginity’s EON Platform was designed to be licensed or acquired by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for incorporation into existing or new products,” Allen said.

“We have expertise at every level of WSN technology, and the resulting uncomplicated design of the EON Platform will make it the cornerstone for new WSN applications,” he added.

EON Platform technology will enable manufacturers to substantially reduce the costs of existing sensor networks, enable current “stand-alone” sensor applications with WSN functionality, or invent and rapidly develop new “smart” solutions.

Eginity is a member client of the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program.

UCF and City of Orlando Business Development Center on Colonial Drive to Expand

UCF and City of Orlando Business Development Center on Colonial Drive to Expand

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Business Development Center District 2, (OBDC) a partnership of the City of Orlando and the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program, located at 3218 E. Colonial Drive, will expand over the next 90 days.

Dr. Tom O’Neal, associate vice president for the University’s Department of Research & Commercialization and executive director of the UCF Business Incubation Program, said the center will more than double the size of its facilities from 2,400 square feet of office space to 6,000 square feet.

O’Neal said UCF is currently interviewing applicants to choose a full-time site manager for OBDC, which opened last year directly across from Fashion Square mall.

“Even in this economic slump, we are seeing a steady interest in business incubation from new companies in the community and we are increasing our capacity to serve more entrepreneurial enterprises,” O’Neal explained.

O’Neal said the Orlando Business Development Center was empowered by a recent nationwide study that shows business incubators rank as the most cost effective stimulators of local economic development.

“Job growth and economic activity in the U.S. are largely dependent on the health of small business enterprises, and effective business incubator programs are one of the best ways to stimulate small business growth and development,” O’Neal said. O’Neal said UCF Business Incubation Program client companies are already positioning themselves to take advantage of new funding offered by the U.S. Economic Recovery Act and stimulus programs.

The UCF Business Incubation Program currently serves more than 70 full-time client companies in five locations, and provides a wide range of walk-in services.

UCF Incubation Program eyes U.S. Economic Stimulation grants for client companies, alternative energy, healthcare are big targets

UCF Incubation Program eyes U.S. Economic Stimulation grants for client companies, alternative energy, healthcare are big targets

ORLANDO, Fla. - Many of the more than 60 client companies at the University of Central Florida’s Business Incubation Program could benefit from U.S. Economic Stimulus Program funding grants, loans and incentives, says founder and head of the program, Dr. Tom O’Neal, associate vice president for the UCF’s Department of Research and Commercialization.

But O’Neal cautioned that competition for the incentives could be tough.

“We anticipate there will be hundreds of companies writing grants and presenting proposals, so the competition for new funding should be brisk,” O’Neal said.

Many economic stimulus funding programs seem tailor-made for client companies in the UCF Business Incubation Program, O’Neal said.

For example, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has more than $150 million in new funding available to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) received a 30 percent increase in their funding. “If that increases our grant success rate from 10-15 percent, that can be a significant boost,” O’Neal said.

New policy directions announced by the U.S. Department of Defense could aid the UCF Business Incubation’s technology companies as well.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced his preference for smaller, smarter defense innovations over multi-billion dollar weapons systems.

“That emphasis should effect our client companies,” O’Neal said. “Several companies competing for Small Business Administration SBIR and STTR grants for the defense industry are focused on small, innovative projects that substantially reduce costs and improve defense capabilities,” he said.

Datanautix Inc. Unveils DIAGNOSTIX™ Solution to Help Companies Quickly Discern What Customers Are Experiencing In Their Call Centers

Datanautix Inc. Unveils DIAGNOSTIX™ Solution to Help Companies Quickly Discern What Customers Are Experiencing In Their Call Centers

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – Datanautix, Inc., a developer of interaction analytics technologies that optimize customer experiences in small and large-scale contact center environments, recently unveiled its DIAGNOSTIX™ solution to help companies better manage the experiences their customers have when they call into their contact centers for support.

Sanjay Patel, chief executive officer of Datanautix, said the DIAGNOSTIX™ solution builds on years of experience and National Science Foundation funded R&D to bring to market a capability that provides quick insight into the experiences customers go through when they call into a company’s customer service operation. Developed through a process of actively listening to thousands of recorded conversations between call center agents and customers, the methodology allows for a rapid review that identifies sources of potential variability in the overall call process and customer experience.

“Driving an effective customer experience at the lowest possible cost is critical in today’s economy,” said Brendan Conlan, head of National Customer Service Strategy & Process Improvement at Nestle Waters. “Having seen the Datanautix DIAGNOSTIX™ tool in action for our company, I am impressed with how much information Datanautix can derive from a relatively small set of calls,” he said. “Companies that are struggling to drive costs downward and customer loyalty upward should be considering the benefits of the Datanautix offering.”

“The philosophy underlying this solution is that it is important to identify what to measure and how to measure it,” said Patel. “By identifying the right call elements and ensuring they are captured using quantitative measures where possible, it then becomes possible to identify areas of variability in customer experience delivery, and then drive predictable outcomes from change initiatives” he said.

Datanautix is also working on an Expert Quality Assurance Process Evaluator that will be able to quickly assess a company’s quality monitoring and assurance process in contact center environments and discover “blind spots” that lead to an incomplete perspective of the customer’s experience. In addition to identifying the blind spots, the expert system based solution will proactively recommend changes that companies can make during call monitoring to get a more customer-centric perspective. The underlying “intelligence” of this solution comes from Datanautix’ experience in a variety of verticals including technology, telecommunications, financial services and consumer products.

Patel said the Expert QA Process Evaluator will provide call centers with a quick assessment of current quality assurance processes and evaluate the potential of using the process as a leading indicator of customer experience and satisfaction. Combined with tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma, a well executed QA Process can be business transformational.

Datanautix is a client company of the University of Central Florida’s Seminole County Incubator site at 1511 E. S.R. 434 in Winter Springs.
