Geocove gets high marks for quick response to Hurricane Irene in Cumberland County, N.C.

ORLANDO Fla., --- Geocove, Inc., based in Orlando, which provides proprietary technology that helps states, counties and municipalities utilize GIS data to inventory and assess damages in the event of storms of other natural disasters, won high praise for its quick response to requests for its software solutions in anticipation of Hurricane Irene’s landfall near Cumberland County, North Carolina.

Karyn Tareen, president and chief executive officer at Geocove, Inc., said the Cumberland County residents suffered sufficient damages to a tornado last April. In June, county disaster management officials acquired Geocove’s ARM360 software suite, but Tareen said the county’s server required upgrading to accommodate the new software.

When Cumberland County officials announced they would upgrade their servers in August, Geocove specialists swung into action.

“We began configuring Cumberland County’s GIS data to accommodate their new server,” Tareen said. “We deployed our ARM360 software and began training staff on its use. Before Hurricane Irene made landfall, we had trained the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office, Emergency Services, and Fayetteville police and fire departments,” Tareen said.

Tareen said Geocove plans to deploy ARM360 software for Cumberland County fire and building inspections departments and tax administration and the towns of Hope Mills and Spring Lake.

Kenny Currie, Cumberland County Emergency Management Director, said Geocove’s fast deployment and training of staff made a big impact on the county’s readiness to respond to Hurricane Irene.

Geocove is a member of the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program in the Central Florida Research Park in East Orange County.
