Four Florida Ports Rank among the Top 25 U.S. Ports for Container Transport
ORLANDO, Fla. --- Four Florida ports---Miami, Port Everglades, West Palm Beach and Jacksonville---rank among the top 25 U.S. ports for container shipments, according to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
George Livingston, chairman emeritus of NAI Realvest in Maitland and a longtime commercial and investment property analyst, said Florida’s ports play a leading role in economic activity and job growth.
“Florida’s biggest ports, Jacksonville and Miami, put us on the map for U.S. transportation of goods, and our smaller ports at Manatee and Panama City combine to rank Florida one of the most important shipping networks in the U.S.,” Livingston said. “This will be even more true when the widened Panama Canal opens
Livingston said expansion efforts currently under way will likely rank Port of Tampa among the nation’s top 25 ports by 2014. Ports at Mobile and Savannah also serve Florida residents and businesses, Livingston said.
“Port shipping for imports and exports rank Florida as a critical link in the U.S. chain of industry and commerce,” Livingston said.

Demetree Builders and Ron Schwartz Settle Dispute; Agree to Part Ways
ORLANDO, Fla. - The owners of Demetree Builders have settled a long-standing dispute with Ron Schwartz that involved ownership of substantial real estate holdings and several operating companies throughout the Orlando area.
Business developers and partners Ron Schwartz and Mary Demetree have agreed to part ways, Schwartz said. The settlement resolves seven lawsuits that have been filed over the past year and resolves disputes surrounding more than a dozen entities that included interests in several operating companies, numerous subdivisions, residential units and raw land.
Mary Demetree will retain controlling ownership of Handex Consulting and Remediation, LLC, (HCR) an environmental company operating from Mt Dora, and she obtains controlling interest in Winter Park’s Park Plaza Gardens fine dining restaurant.
Schwartz, who recently opened several new companies, said both parties are pleased with being able to work out a settlement.
Schwartz, who acquired his interest in the fine dining restaurant in 2002, guided the landmark facility through major renovations and repositioning as one of the region’s best-known fine dining restaurants.
And as operating partner and CEO of DB Orlando, Schwartz developed dozens of subdivisions from Vero Beach to Gainesville over the past nine years. The partners also constructed single family homes, townhomes and condominiums throughout Central Florida. And their venture capital fund invested in and/or acquired such companies as HCR.
Schwartz recently launched Ride Green Scooters in Winter Park, which sells and services modestly priced Asian motor scooters for commuters, students, and other cost-conscious/green conscious consumers.

The auction will be conducted live in the Venetian Bay Country Club and bids will be accepted worldwide via telephone and the Internet, said Lori Chipps, auctioneer for Worldwide Auction Realty Services.
Chipps said 42 condominiums and townhomes to be auctioned are located near the center of Venetian Bay’s town center and surrounded by lakes, park-like thoroughfares, walkways and nature trails.
Ten of the 42 units will be sold absolute.
The Tuscany Square condominiums – directly adjacent and easily accessible to the pool, Tiki Bar and restaurant – range in size from 1,684 square feet of living space to 2,660 square feet and feature spacious balconies and one and two-car garages. The condominiums previously sold for over $550,000.
The 13 Parkside Townhomes to be auctioned, previously listed at $260,000, feature two bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths in 1,834 square feet of living area with two-car garages and tropical onsite pool.
Chipps said suggested opening bids for the condominiums and townhome units at Venetian Bay will start from $115,000.
Venetian Bay is a spectacular country club community with a town center including restaurants and shops, and 18-hole world class championship golf course. Located northeast of Orlando with grand entranceway off S.R. 44 just west of I-95, Venetian Bay is just 10 minutes to New Smyrna Beach and 25 minutes to the Lake Mary/Heathrow business center and high tech corridor.
The 42 properties at Tuscany Square and Parkside Townhomes are represented by Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty of Orlando.

Local Law Firm Helps Sponsor Saturday Daytona International Speedway Event to Benefit the Children’s Cancer Foundation
DAYTONA BEACH – The Port Orange-based law firm of Rue & Ziffra is serving as a platinum sponsor for the 4th annual “Red, White and Blue Gala Night,” a fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Cancer Foundation on Saturday[10/3] at Daytona International Speedway.
The event – scheduled from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Daytona 500 Club – will include dinner, cocktails, dancing, casino games, silent and live auctions, door prizes, a disc jockey from radio station 105.9, and music by Stetson University’s Jazz Ensemble, as well as a performance by nationally-known singer Michele Anastasio.
Corporate tables are available and seating is limited. Advanced tickets are $50 per person and $100 per couple. Admission at the door will be $75 and $125, respectively.
Sponsorship like that provided by the firm and other area businesses will enable the Children’s Cancer Foundation to provide a year-round support base for children and their families who are facing cancer.
It’s one way the personal-injury firm gives back to the community, said Allan Ziffra, president and founder.
“What better cause could we possibly support than a group that provides so much and helps families deal with the emotional and financial costs associated with fighting cancer,” Ziffra said.
For more information about the gala, please call 386-747-3962 or visit http://www.childrenscancerfoundationinc.org/
