Stoneybrook Golf Club First in Area to Kick Off "Foot Golf" Hybrid Game that Blends Golf and Soccer

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Stoneybrook West Golf in Winter Garden will be on of the first golf courses in Florida to add a new attraction: Foot Golf, a hybrid sport that blends the rules and equipment of soccer and golf. Kenny Nairn, the Scottish PGA professional and co-owner of Celebration Golf Management, which owns and operates Stoneybrook West Golf Club, said Foot Golf was invented to broaden the appeal of golf courses and golf play. “Foot Golf adapts most of the strategic rules of golf with a regulation soccer ball, and the foot instead of a bag of clubs,” Nairn explained. The sport appeals to younger players and some older as well,” Nairn said. “For beginners who worry their golfing skills might not be up to the task on a golf course, Foot Golf offers a way to learn some of the psychology of golf and the pleasures of a good golf course without the investment in equipment and lessons,” Nairn explained. Rules are simple enough. Team play is encouraged and the game offers many benefits including healthy exercise, competitive play and camaraderie--- on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards. “Foot Golf is a great way to work up a sweat and a good excuse to visit the bar afterwards,” Nairn laughed. Nairn, who serves as chief operating officer at Celebration Golf Management, said other Celebration courses will offer Foot Golf and tournaments may be in the offing as well. “Legends Golf and Country Club in Clermont will offer Foot Golf starting in October,” Nairn said. Celebration Golf Management operates nine premier golf clubs in Central Florida.
