DAYTONA BEACH – The Port Orange-based law firm of Rue & Ziffra is helping sponsor this year’s Puttin’ On the Ritz Sails the French Riviera at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at The Plaza Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach.
Highlights of the event – which benefits the North Coastal Division of the Children’s Home Society of Florida – include a champagne reception, and a dinner of gourmet French cuisine and wine followed by both silent and live auctions.
The personal-injury law firm has been a sponsor of the event for the past four years, according to Allan L. Ziffra, firm president.
“We’re very happy to be a sponsor of such an exciting event for the community and one that provides so much for so many children and youths throughout the state,” Ziffra said.
Last year the Children’s Home Society provided services and care to more than 125,000 children and families statewide, 1,200 of whom were in the North Coastal Division, according to Shirley Jeter, the division’s development director. Those services included foster care, group/residential homes, emergency shelter, independent and transitional living, mental health and counseling.
Tickets for the gala are $100 per person. For more information, contact Shirley Jeter at 386-304-7600, ext. 227 or Shirley.Jeter@chsfl.org.

Despite Space Shuttle Program Ending, Brevard County is Experiencing a Real Estate Boom, Says One local Realtor
MERRITT ISLAND / ROCKLEDGE, Fla. --- Home buyers are moving to Brevard County despite thousands of layoffs attributed to the end of the space shuttle program. That’s the word from Kim Tillett, a sales executive at Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty who focuses on Brevard County.
Roger Soderstrom, founder and owner of Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty, said Tillett sold four homes in July for over $1 million — a five bedroom home on Killarney Ct. in a gated community in Merritt Island; a four bedroom home on Twelve Oaks Circle in Merritt Island; another four bedroom home on Hudson Drive in Rockledge and a three bedroom waterfront home on Sandpiper St. in Merritt Island.
“We’re seeing four kinds of buyers,” Tillett said. “New niche families from around the country who have the option of working from their homes are moving into the area to upgrade because of the affordability, quality of life and excellent schools; second home buyers coming from the northeast looking for vacation homes for their families, active adults who see Brevard as a great place to retire, and investors who are seeing great deals with anticipated future growth in property values,” she said.
Tillett added that August will be another strong closing month for her and her pipeline of buyers is growing every day.
“It’s exciting to see all of the new families discovering what Brevard County has to offer and the great home buying opportunities here,” she said, “and the biggest challenge now is finding a steady supply of good inventory – it’s way down from where we were 3-4 years ago.”
The Sotheby’s International Realty brand has been an asset considering most of the buyers are coming from outside of Florida and even the U.S., Tillett said.
