Key Largo Electrical and Audio/Visual Company is First Monroe County Based firm Selected to Participate in State’s GrowFL Economic Gardening Program

KEY LARGO, Fla. – Protech e², a Monroe County-based electrical and audio/visual company recently was chosen to receive technical assistance through GrowFL, a state-funded Florida Economic Gardening Institute program, and is the first growing business in the Florida Keys to be accepted in to the state’s stimulus program.

Founded in 2005 by John E. Forrer, Protech e² provides electrical, home automation (iPad, iphone, itouch and other PC devices), lighting control, landscape lighting, LED lighting, solar panel systems, video surveillance security, audio / video home theater systems, as well as computer and office networking services.

Forrer, who serves as chief executive officer and chief electrical / low voltage technology director for the company, said GrowFL will help “provide direction towards maintaining the right path to success.”

“The affiliation will allow us to utilize valuable resources in enhancing the growth of our business and create more jobs in the Florida Keys,” he said. The company currently has 15 employees.

Created in 2009 by the Florida Legislature, GrowFL is based at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. When selecting businesses for the program, the institute looks for ones that have the potential to succeed, according to Dr. Tom O’Neal, executive director of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute.

“Protech e² is ideal for the program as it has already shown great potential,” said O’Neal, who also is associate vice president for the University of Central Florida’s Office of Research and Commercialization.

GrowFL will support Protech e² through a number of services, including access to market research and technology, strategy analysis, CEO roundtables and forums, database research and website optimization.
