Plantation Bay Golf & County Club Tennis pro David Brown’s family named USTA Florida Family of the Year

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Dave Brown, director of tennis at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, is well known around Port Orange for the extra work he puts in promoting tennis play.

Now the Florida Section of the U.S. Tennis Assn. — the governing body for tennis in Florida — has named the Brown family its Family of the Year for 2011.

The Brown family was formally recognized at the USTA 62nd Annual Florida Meeting held recently in Orlando.

“The Family of the Year award honors the family that had the most significant impact in tennis in Florida,” said Rosemary Messina, vice president of sales and marketing at ICI Homes, the developer of Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club.

Besides heading the tennis program at Plantation Bay, Dave Brown serves as volunteer program director for the FTC Foundation, a free after school program for youngsters aged 10 and under in the Port Orange and Daytona Beach areas.

Dave’s wife Ann Brown serves as coordinator of competitive education at USTA Florida’s Daytona Beach headquarters.

Son Aaron grew up playing USTA junior tournaments and held national and state rankings, Brown said. Ranked tops in his class when he graduated from Spruce Creek High School, Aaron went on to play in college and recently earned his USTA (USPTA) professional tennis certification. He currently teaches tennis at the Trails Racquet Club in Ormond Beach.

“All of us at ICI Homes are proud of Dave and his family,” Messina said. “They are an inspiration to us all.”
