Celebration, Fla. – Celebration Golf Management, which owns The Golden Bear Golf Club at Keene’s Pointe in Windermere, will close the course for 10 weeks starting June 18 with a scheduled re-opening date of Sept. 1.
Carlos Puerto, general manager of The Golden Bear Club, said “the original Tif Dwarf greens are 13 years old and the opportunity to renovate them this year with Champion Dwarf Bermuda will position us among the finest courses in the Southeast.”
“We are installing Champion Turf Farms’ Champion Dwarf Bermuda grass on all 18 greens and practice surfaces. Champion Dwarf Bermuda grass is becoming the grass of choice in the Southeast,” Puerto said.
Since its introduction in the early 1990s, 47 major PGA tour events have been held on Champion Bermuda grass including the 2011 PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club last August.
Jim Sullivan, superintendent of The Golden Bear Club, said the new selection of Champion Turf Grass will provide more consistent conditions and some of the highest quality putting surfaces in the Southeast.
“I am excited for our membership as they will experience a more consistent roll and green speed throughout the year,” Sullivan said.
