DAYTONA BEACH – “Champions for Children” is the theme for the 28th annual ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ fundraiser Sept. 15 at the Plaza Resort & Spa, 600 N. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach.
The glitzy, black tie gala – which benefits the North Coastal Division of the Children’s Home Society of Florida – features a champagne reception, delectable dinner and decadent dessert bar; as well as silent and live auctions, live music from DJ Tremble of Black Crow Media, and achievement awards.
This year the following awards will be presented: Child Advocate of the Year, Ronald Pagano, principal of Taylor Middle-High School in Pierson; Lifetime Achievement, Barbara Wolfson, director of Very Special Arts of Florida/Volusia County; and Corporate Partner of the Year, the Port Orange law firm of Rue & Ziffra P.A.
“Every year we look forward to dressing up to attend this wonderful event and supporting an organization that does remarkable work for foster children in Volusia, Flagler and Putnam counties,” said John Rue, founder of the personal-injury firm.
Rue said Rue & Ziffra, a gold sponsor of this year’s gala, has helped support the event the past three years. Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center is this year’s main sponsor.

Last year the Children’s Home Society provided services to more than 198,710 children and families across the state, of whom more than 1,900 were in the North Coastal Division, according to Shirley Jeter, the division’s development director.
