Climbing Gas Prices Push Demand For Fuel-Efficient Scooters

WINTER PARK - Every time a news outlet breaks the news that gasoline prices have risen again, six to eight new customers visit Ride Green Scooters in Winter Park.

“It’s like clockwork anymore,” said Brian Schwartz, who opened Ride Green Scooters on Fairbanks Ave. two years ago. “The fear of increased transportation costs drive customers to our dealership, in hopes of saving money in a down economy.”

Schwartz specializes in sales of fuel-efficient transportation that comes with more frills than you would expect and one or two thrills in the bargain.

“We sell scooters that get up to 100 miles per gallon and we sell scooters that will cruise all day at 75 miles per hour or better,” Schwartz said.

Smaller scooters have an added advantage, Schwartz said. With less than a 50 cc engine displacement, they don’t require a motorcycle endorsement to operate on city streets and county roads.

“In addition to the gas powered scooters, Ride Green offers a new DUI Scooter – which is fully electric and does not require any driver’s license.

“Workers who have lost their license and can’t match their work schedule with the bus schedule have a way to commute to their jobs conveniently and economically,” Schwartz explained.

Schwartz said news about gasoline prices create the most demand for his scooters.

“Prices are projected to hit $4 a gallon this summer and maybe as high as $5,” Schwartz said.

“Gasoline in the U.S. is approaching the cost of petrol in Europe and Asia, where most people ride scooters as their principal means of transportation,” he said.

Schwartz said energy-efficient scooters are better for the environment than full-sized automobiles and he can go that one better.

“Electric scooters offer excellent driving range, easy recharge and fuel efficiency that’s equivalent to more than 110 miles per gallon,” he added.

Ride Green Scooters is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sunday by appointment at 671 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park. Visit www.ridegreenscooters.com.
