DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — ICI Homes, a leading home builder and community developer with neighborhoods in the Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Orlando and Tampa areas will be one of the “key” sponsors and promoters in an attempt to save the St. Johns Ferry Service.
Rosemary Messina, vice president of sales and marketing for ICI Homes, said a special event is scheduled — “Ferry Fest” at Mayport Village starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m.
The Jacksonville Port Authority recently announced it would stop supporting the ferry operations.
“We want to get involved,” Messina said, adding “visitors and residents use the ferry on a daily basis.”
“We need to let legislators and the Port Authority officials know that the community supports continuation of the ferry service and this Aug. 25 event at Mayport will be a major step in that direction.”
“A special petition is being organized to show the authority how much the community cares, Messina said.
“Discontinuing the ferry service will also have a profound impact on the First Coast’s economic, transportation, and environmental interests,” Messina added.
Among the events planned for the Aug. 25 day at Mayport will be live music, food trucks, artists and special guests throughout the day which will end at 9 p.m. Mayport Village is located at 4610 Ocean St. in Atlantic Beach. For more information, call Elaine Brown 904-318-5904
