72 Golfers make the rounds at The Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe in Windermere in Fairways for Warriors Golf Tournament

WINDERMERE, Fla. --- Seventy-two golfers participated in the Fairways for Warriors golf tournament to benefit Wounded Warriors at the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe in Windermere. Matthew Allen, general manager and director of golf at the Golden Bear Club, said the tournament field included more than a dozen wounded military veterans for whom the Fairways for Warriors program provides golf lessons, equipment and course play to help ease the transition to civilian life. Many of the participating wounded warriors also spoke at the awards luncheon which followed the tournament, Allen said. Fairways for Warriors president Tom Underdown introduced speakers including Col. Danny McKnight, survivor of Black Hawk Down. Allen said golfers at the recent Summer Stableford Tournament hosted by the Golden Bear Club Men’s Golf Association donated hundreds of used clubs, balls, golf bags and other golf related equipment for the program. Stableford is a century-old alternative method of scoring in golf.
