Tallahassee Family-owned Lighting Company Selected to Receive Free Technical Assistance from State’s GrowFL Economic Gardening Program

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Golden Lighting, a 29-year-old family-owned and operated residential lighting company, has been selected to participate in GrowFL, a state-funded Florida Economic Gardening Institute program that provides free technical assistance to Florida small businesses.

Created in 2009 by the Florida Legislature, GrowFL is based at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. When selecting businesses to participate in the program, the institute looks for companies that have the potential for success, according to Dr. Tom O’Neal, executive director of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute.

“Golden Lighting is an ideal candidate for the program as it has shown it has a commitment to excellence,” said Dr. O’Neal, who also is associate vice president for the University of Central Florida’s Office of Research and Commercialization. “With assistance from GrowFL, Golden Lighting can create new jobs in the lighting industry.”

Founded in 1982 by Ingshang Liao, Golden Lighting specializes in the design and manufacture of high-quality residential lighting products and accessories, according to Yuh-Mei Hutt, current president, and the daughter of Ingshang Liao.

The company, which Hutt calls “one of the best-kept secrets in in affordable lighting,” has 25 employees who work from the corporate office in Tallahassee and a Texas showroom.

“We’re hoping the prestige of GrowFL will communicate to the public that we are a family-owned business with a commitment to excellence,” Hutt said. “The GrowFL designation will help us continue to create jobs in the lighting industry, as well as help builders create more beautiful spaces at an affordable price for Florida consumers.”

In addition to market research and technology, GrowFL will support the company through a number of other free services, including strategy analysis, CEO roundtables and forums, database research and website optimization.
