Golden Bear Club’s Bart Bryant Earns his First Champions Tour Win as Clubhouse Cheers

Windermere, Fla. --- Gathering around the big-screen monitor in the clubhouse of Windermere’s Golden Bear Golf Club to watch fellow members win major PGA tournaments is becoming a tradition. But this time it was different, said Matthew Allen, general manager and director of golf at the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe in Windermere said the cheers were a little louder this time. This time Golden Bear Club’s Bart Bryant – a 50-year old Champions Tour rookie – shot a 10 under 62 in the second round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, NY on Saturday and then closed on Sunday with a 72 for a 16-under 200 and a one-stroke victory over Russ Cochran (67) and Corey Pavin (69). “I think the energy level was higher,” Allen said. “Bart Bryant could be any of a couple dozen guys at Golden Bear Club, for a little while he was all of us. He’s personable, he’s courteous, he’s extremely dedicated to his golf game and he’s a big winner,” Allen said. Bryant’s 10 under 62 on Saturday tied the record for the 33-year old tournament, Allen said, and Sunday’s climax marked Bryant as the Champions Tour’s 1,000th winner. “It’s always exciting when someone you know succeeds in a big way,” Allen said. “Everyone at Golden Bear Club was pulling for him, he’s a great guy, he works hard and he earned it,” Allen said.
