ORLANDO, Fla. – Ed Kelly loved gold. When he wasn’t playing, he volunteered his time as an ambassador — a course marshal who helped players and visitors at Celebration Golf Club.
When he recently passed away, Celebration Golf Club staff and managers decided to erect a special memorial.
“We’re going to build a special monument with a plaque,” said Celebration Golf Manager Tano Maletin.
Gene Garrote, president of Celebration Golf Management, which owns and operates Celebration Golf Club, said Kelly was well known by almost everyone who played the course.
“He was one of those characters whose charm, charisma and presence made everyone like him,” Garrote said.

Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty's Commercial Division Negotiates sale of REO Strip Center in Clermont for $979,000 to Chinese Consortium
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Commercial Group at Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty recently negotiated the $979,000 sale of the Lakeridge Commons retail strip center on U.S. 27 north of Clermont to a Chinese Consortium.
Roger Soderstrom, founder and owner of Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty, said International Commercial Investment Specialist Anthony Bordonaro negotiated the sale representing the buyer, Shiang Suk Chiang.
Lakeridge Commons includes 18 acres with two retail buildings that total 27,000 square feet of space and approvals to build four additional retail buildings that total 45,000 square feet.
Bordonaro said the buyer’s earlier offer of $3 million for the property was rejected by the developers. When the developers later defaulted on their development loan, the property was taken over by American First Bank, which was subsequently taken over by the FDIC and merged with TD Bank N.A.
TD Bank N.A. entered the property for auction, but the sale Bordonaro negotiated preempted the auction offering.
Lakeridge Commons is the second major real estate transaction Stirling Sotheby’s International Realty has negotiated in the last 30 days with Chinese buyers. Earlier this summer, Stirling Sotheby’s negotiated the sale of the $3.3 million Joey Fantone estate on the Butler Chain of Lakes near Windermere to a Chinese family.

Mydea Technologies in Orlando Plays Leading Role in 3D Printing Industry
ORLANDO, Fla., --- Mydea Technologies, the eight-year old Orlando company headed by former Disney Imagineer Michael Siemer, is playing a leading role in the Additive Manufacturing industry. Additive Manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, is an important new field that seems more science fiction than fact as it generates exciting, new opportunities in industry.
Mydea recently acquired the MakerBot, a sophisticated one-of-a-kind printer designed by RepRap, an open source community project that allowed contributions from many different participating companies and scientists.
The MakerBot, Mydea’s seventh in-house 3D printing machine, is essentially a digital ink jet printer conceptually similar to those on the desktops of many U.S. homes. However, the MakerBot’s “ink” is a melted plastic compound that hardens as it cools. By printing successive layers, the MakerBot gradually creates a 3D prototype.
The MakerBot was recently featured on the Colbert Report, a popular Comedy Central show with host Stephen Colbert. As the show aired, the MakerBot created a three-dimensional model of Colbert’s face.
“The impact on different business segments with additive manufacturing is enormous,” Siemer said. “It’s beginning to significantly impact production for medical, aerospace, arts and jewelry, and several other industries,” he said.
Siemer said MakerBot has some advantaged over other 3D printers.
“The MakerBot is portable, fully customizable, and it can print in glow-in-the-dark colors that are easier to identify within a prototype component,” said Siemer. “We can bring the MakerBot to client company offices, trade shows and conferences to show off its capabilities firsthand,” Siemer said.
Mydea Technologies specializes in the rapid manufacture of prototype components for a wide range of technology enterprises. To view a video of Siemer and product demonstration, visit http://www.youtube.com/user/facesoftechnology#p/a/u/0/fSAQEW0r7ZQ.

Orlando-based Business Consulting and Internet Marketing Company is Anything but Mainstream with its Diverse Workforce and Fun Atmosphere
ORLANDO, Fla. – Take one look at In Business Inc., a rapidly growing Internet-based marketing company, and you’ll know it isn’t your father’s kind of marketing company.
In Business, which recently expanded into its third office space at the University of Central Florida’s Business Incubator – Orlando on Colonial Drive, dares to be different and the company’s workforce – as well as work style – is evidence of that.
When David Wolf’s 10 employees gather in the conference room for an impromptu staff meeting, it looks more like a gathering of the United Nations with representation from numerous continents. And like Wolf, many of them opt to sit on fitness balls instead of office chairs. “It’s good for your back,” he says.
“We have people working here who are from all over the world and from all religions and beliefs,” Wolf said. “From geography to ethnicity to religion and even age, we’ve got it here. We all get along great and have fun while we work.”
The staff – which includes two employees who work off-site in Houston and in the Dominican Republic – are anything but mainstream, with roots in countries like India, Peru, the Dominican Republic and China. And, religions such as Muslim, Agnostic, Christian, and believers in non-religious spirituality also are represented at In Business.
Wolf, who co-founded the company two years ago, said he never planned to have such a diverse staff; it just happened that way. What is amazing, he says, is how well everyone works together without issue.
“I wanted to run a company where employees worked hard, but also had fun,” he said, explaining the many perks he offers employees like working from home, casual attire, and the ability to launch their own ventures with his support and guidance.
Wolf said In Business doesn’t judge employees on how many hours they work, as there are no set hours. Instead, they are judged on the quality and speed of their work. New employees are given extensive training and learn what is expected of them.
“The better their output, and more efficiently they use their time, the more I am willing to pay them,” Wolf says, “If I don’t, someone else will.”
Wolf says he wanted to build a workplace where people “looked up and saw nothing in their way.”
“Because of the culture we’ve built, I think the staff is very happy and they enjoy coming to work,” he said.

New Web Community for Golfers is One Part Facebook, One Part Groupon, and All Parts Golf
KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Cameron Cress may have the Next Big Idea, and golfers may be the beneficiaries.
Cress recently launched PlayGolfPlanet.com, a web community that combines some of the social features of Facebook with the special pricing opportunities available through Groupon.
“PlayGolfPlanet.com is an e-commerce marketplace that allows consumers to connect directly to their favorite golf courses and the friends they typically play golf with,” Cress explained.
“The platform helps golf courses understand their customers’ buying motives to sell more tee times that are relevant to the customers’ needs. The real-time system allows golf courses to create exclusive, personalized deals for golfers who can invite friends to join the round,” Cress said.
Already, PlayGolfPlanet.com has signed some of the top Orlando courses such as MetroWest Golf Club, Grand Cypress Golf Club, Timacuan Golf & Country Club and Windermere Country Club. Cress said more are in the offing.
Golf courses need a better way to connect with their most loyal customers, Cress said.
“PlayGolfPlanet.com takes a non-conventional approach to the online tee time landscape by creating an environment that facilitates a golfer and golf course relationship without a middleman,” Cress said.
Cress expects PlayGolfPlanet.com to expand. He projects 30 golf courses in the Central Florida area will join before the end of this year.
“We anticipate that we will be active nationwide within the next three years,” Cress said.
PlayGolfPlanet.com recently joined the University of Central Florida Business Incubator in Kissimmee at 111 E. Monument Avenue.

First Green Bank headquarters facility in Mount Dora LED parking lot lighting provides 80 percent energy savings
EUSTIS, Fla. – When First Green Bank opens its new headquarters facility on U.S. 441 in Mount Dora in October, LED parking lot lights will light up the parking lot while minimizing energy usage and ecological interference and leaving the stars in the night sky visible.
Ken LaRoe, chairman and chief executive officer of First Green Bank, said the new lighting employs quality LED chips with high performance reflectors that provide up to 14,000 lumens of light and are a feature of the energy efficient and environmentally sustainable design of the facility overall.
The parking lot and perimeter of our headquarters is designed to minimize light pollution in an effort to reduce light trespass from the building and the site, reduce sky glow, increase night sky access and reduce the development’s impact on local nocturnal creatures, LaRoe said. Manufactured by LSI Industries in Cincinnati, the lighting system will save a projected 80 percent in energy expenditure over conventional floodlights.
“Our new lighting system will pay for itself in just three years,” LaRoe said.
The lighting system is one of many features in the new bank facility that will earn First Green Bank Lake County’s first commercial construction LEED Platinum designation from the U.S. Green Building Council for energy efficiency, environmental and safety security.

Top Pensacola Company Selected for State Economic Gardening Program
PENSACOLA, Fla. – IMS ExpertServices, an executive search/expert witness firm, was recently selected to receive free technical training from the state-funded GrowFL program, part of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute.
Founded in 1992 by Mike Wein and Bill Wein, IMS ExpertServices began as an interim executive firm focusing on the telecommunications industry. IMS provides highly-qualified experts and consultants to the world’s top litigators, which include 97 of the top 100 largest law firms, Wein said. “Our unique search services allow our clients to secure the best expert for their specific needs.”
“Receiving this award is recognition that we provide a valued service to clients who are satisfied with our work,” Wein said. “We hope to continue to grow, hire great people and support our community and we owe it all to our dedicated employees, who consistently deliver on the company promise.”

Winter Park Import Company Selected for State’s GrowFL Economic Gardening Program
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Bajalia International Group– a local importer of designer-quality products – recently was selected to participate in the state-funded GrowFL program, part of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute.
Debbie Farah, company founder and chief executive officer, said Bajalia’s designation as a GrowFL company simply translates into one thing for her eight-year-old company: growth.
“This means our company will get the necessary support-services as we are a fast-growth company. We’ve hired nine employees so far this year,” said Farah, a Jacksonville native and former banking and advertising executive who started the Winter Park-based company in 2003.
The GrowFL program was created in 2009 by the Florida Legislature and is based at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. When selecting businesses to participate, members of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute look for companies that have the potential for success, according to Dr. Tom O’Neal, executive director of the Florida Economic Gardening Institute. GrowFL will support Bajalia through a number of free services, including access to market research and technology, strategy analysis, CEO roundtables and forums, database research and website optimization.
“Bajalia is ideal for the program as it has a strong business leader with a philanthropic foundation,” said Dr. O’Neal, who also is associate vice president for the University of Central Florida’s Office of Research and Commercialization.
Currently, Bajalia has 11 full-time and numerous part-time employees, who work from the Winter Park headquarters and from a satellite office in Dallas, Texas.
Farah describes herself as a social entrepreneur as she is CEO for both Bajalia Trading Company and Bajalia International Group. The two companies – one for profit and the other a non-profit – work simultaneously in 22 countries around the world. Eighty percent of Bajalia International Group’s production workforce is made up of women artisans who craft handmade fair-trade creations in developing countries.
The for-profit component of the business – which began selling products on the Home Shopping Network earlier this year – leads sales and marketing efforts, while the non-profit arm provides entrepreneurial training and developmental workshops, and incubates businesses in emerging economies.
“Our mission is to alleviate poverty and empower low-income earners around the world through trade, training and other forms of community development while marketing their products to bring about sustainable, empowering, change in their lives,” Farah said. “Having access to the experts and consultants that GrowFL is providing to us is helping us do that.”
About Bajalia Trading Company:
With a mission of alleviating poverty and empowering low-income earners around the world, Bajalia uses the sale of its products to bring about sustainable, empowering change in people’s lives. Influenced by the impact of her Palestinian ancestry, founder Debbie Farah longed to do something to strengthen women throughout the world and left a lucrative creative director career to do so. Her company is committed to alleviating poverty “one entrepreneur at a time.” Earlier this year, she was named one of “150 Women Who Shake the World” by Newsweek Magazine for her philanthropic efforts. ORLANDO, Fla. --- Sales of new homes at Heritage Hills in Clermont and Heritage Isle in Viera are the best they have been since 2005, when the nation’s housing slowdown began.

“Usually we see the most activity in the winter,” said Sara Nakamine, Active Adult marketing manager for Lennar in Central Florida.
“That’s when the majority of northern visitors come to Florida to look at retirement living,” she said.

Mattamy Homes U.S. Group Earns Energy Star® Rating for all New Homes its Jacksonville area Communities Boasts Energy Savings That Average $200 to $400
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Mattamy Homes U.S. Group, a division of Canada’s largest home builder, has qualified to earn the coveted Energy Star® rating for all new homes it builds in 11 communities in Northeast Florida, including Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine.
Jerry Dean, vice president of construction Mattamy Homes Jacksonville, said Mattamy Energy Star® homes are rigorously engineered and built to exacting standards to meet or exceed the Energy Star® requirements.
Dean said Mattamy Energy Star® homes will save home buyers $200 to $400 annually in energy costs, depending on the size of the home.
“Our Energy Star® homes will dramatically reduce energy costs and provide a safer, cleaner, more valuable home in the short term and in the long term,” Dean said.
To achieve Energy Star®, Mattamy includes: R-38 insulation in ceilings and R-15 insulation in walls, properly installed to help provide even temperatures; qualified air- conditioners that run quieter, provide better humidity control; programmable thermostats to help save energy costs and consumption; double paned Low-E coated windows that help keep heat in during the winter and cold air in the summer as well as blocking damaging ultraviolet rays that discolor carpets, drapes and furnishings.

HOTEL INDUSTRY VETERAN MIKE MASON LAUNCHES ZENTILA
Groundbreaking new company offers first-ever online booking engine to meeting planners
ORLANDO, Fla., – Mike Mason, a 25-year veteran of the hospitality industry, has launched Zentila, a revolutionary online platform for hotels and meeting planners to conduct business more efficiently.
Zentila, a sales solution for hotels, is the first-ever online booking engine specifically focused on short-term meetings or STMs, which are meetings booked within 90 days of the arrival date. Beyond providing a user-friendly application to search and source pre-qualified venues, Zentila offers access exclusively to the top upscale and luxury meeting hotels in the country, which already capture 85 percent of the STMs. The company also promises planners a three-hour bid turnaround time versus the traditional three to four days it currently takes planners to search and source.
“Not only does Zentila make it easier for meeting planners to get their jobs done, it drives incremental business to hotels within a time period that has traditionally been difficult to sell against,” said Mike Mason, founder and ZEO of Zentila. “The demand was there, but the hotel’s ability to sell against it was not. And, Zentila offers hotels an advantage they’ve never had before, which is the ability to see who they’re competing against before they make their offer to the planner. That’s an invaluable tool for them to be able to make better sales decisions.”
The Secret is in the Offer
A key component of the Zentila business model is called the Secret Offer. Here’s how it works: planners create their meeting request and select the specific hotels they want to work with. When hotels respond, the planner will not see the hotel names, but only the meeting package. They will know, though, that the bids they receive back are only from those hotels they have personally pre-selected. The Secret Offer appeals to meeting planners shopping multiple hotels for the best package versus a specific brand while at the same time, creating new opportunities for hotels. In addition, the short-term booking window means hotels can have the confidence to offer their best deal upfront, knowing that planners are ready to book and not just rate-shopping. And because the hotel bids that aren’t chosen remain confidential, there is no worry about losing a competitive edge.
Other compelling features of Zentila include:
• “Search, Source and Book,” a dynamic RFP builder with full drag-and-drop functionality, the first of its kind, that enables planners to go from needing a venue to having one in three hours or less.
• A “search engine with a brain” that delivers 100 percent relevant results because there’s no advertising. The site also features interactive filtering that was crafted from planner feedback, such as landmark distance that is measured in time instead of miles, last-renovated date, and sleeping room size. Not only does this significantly shorten sourcing time but planners report that it’s easy-to-use and fun.
• The ability to “Zoot,” a Twitter-like function that assists planners in their hotel and destination research by connecting them directly to other planners.
• Access to “Zenalyitics,” which is information provided to hotels to help them make better decisions. For example, Zentila will provide competitive set data on every lead, will let the hotels know where a meeting was booked, and will ensure that the booking cycle is complete. They’ll also see macro trends relating to their performance on Zentila.
Available free to meeting planners, Zentila’s hotel customers will participate via different membership levels as well as a fixed fee for each room booked and actualized. “We’re the first technology to focus specifically on this growing channel,” said Mason. “We’re revolutionizing how things are done with a game-changing platform that consolidates searching, sourcing, and purchasing down to as little as three hours, which is unprecedented. Planners can now go from needing a site to having one in less than a day. It’s planning Zen.”
The Journey to Zentila
Based in Winter Garden, Fla., Zentila is the brainchild of hospitality industry veteran Mike Mason, who identified a window of sales opportunity for hotels that was potentially lucrative, but difficult to sell against. In an effort to capitalize on the growing trend to book Short Term Meetings (STMs), namely 90 days or less from when the meeting would actually take place, he set out on a journey to create an easier path between hotels and planners. The result is the first-ever online booking engine for meetings that also acts as a sales solution for hotels. For more information, visit www.zentila.com or call (407) 656-5683.
