Orlando Firm’s Unique Environmental Web Site One of Three Finalists for International Award

ORLANDO, Fla. --- Data Transfer Solutions, LLC (DTS), recently launched a unique environmental web site created for The City of Park City, Utah, that now ranks as one of three finalists for a prestigious international award.

The web site, www.ParkCityGreen.org, is one of three sites in the running for the prestigious Site of the Year 2009 award from Kentico Software, based in Brno, Czech Republic. One of the three finalists will be selected in a vote by more than 2,000 Kentico users in 74 countries worldwide.

Last year Kentico’s content management system (CMS), which utilizes the ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL server, was named the fastest growing young technology company in the Deloitte FAST 50 Rising Stars.

A.M. “Trey” Fragala III, AICP, chief operating officer at DTS, said Lakshmi Ramaseshan, senior project manager at DTS, developed the web site for the Park City Foundation to help promote environmental awareness in a tourist and ski resort region that is severely threatened by loss of snowpack.

“Park City Foundation organized a campaign funded by the Knight Foundation to teach local residents, businesses and visitors how their efforts can reduce energy use and water consumption to lower the community’s carbon footprint,” Fragala explained.

The web site includes a unique “what if” calculator that instantly analyzes individual environmental activities to provide an assessment of each activity’s contribution to the environment.

“The Kentico CMS platform provides the widest range of tools to develop this sort of very complex web portal,” Fragala said. “We were able to design a web portal that incorporates intuitive, highly user-friendly social networking features with powerful educational tools that motivate engagement,” he said.

Fragala said the Kentico Site of the Year 2009 award will be announced in early December.

Lennar in Acquisition Mode, Eyes Big Growth in New Home Sales in Orlando Area in 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. --- Lennar, which ranks as Florida’s largest home builder, plans to open six new communities in the Orlando region by mid-year and hopes to acquire more home sites in the area.

Mark Metheny, president of Lennar’s Central Florida Division, (mark.metheny@lennar.com) said Lennar has sold more than 400 new homes in the Orlando area this year and expects to eclipse that in 2010.

“We expect big growth in new home sales in the Orlando region in 2010,” Metheny said. “We are actively seeking new acquisitions of well-situated home sites and neighborhood development sites,” he said.

Lennar builds new single-family homes and town homes priced from the $100s to the $400s in 17 Orlando-area communities.

Metheny has built a strong team in the Orlando region. He relocated Lennar’s Orlando-area headquarters from Maitland Center to Clermont and installed David Parker (david.parker@lennar.com) as vice president of sales and marketing for the region.

“David Parker has more than 10 years of exceptionally solid experience,” Metheny said. “He is an innovative and highly disciplined executive and he is playing an increasingly important role in our growth in the Orlando area.”

Metheny also promoted Anthony DeSimone (anthony.desimone@lennar.com) to vice president of construction in Orlando. DeSimone has more than 15 years of home building experience.

Jim Bavouset, (jim.bavouset@lennar.com) a longtime regional acquisition and development executive was appointed to assist in Lennar’s site selection process.

In addition, Lennar is seeking a full time, director of acquisitions for the Orlando market, a senior level executive with strong ties to the Orlando market.

Lennar expects to hire as many as 12 new sales associates over the next nine months to meet growing demand.

“We anticipate substantial growth in the Orlando area in 2010 as the economy improves,” Metheny said. “We will probably see the most growth in newly acquired communities, as well as our active adult communities, as the recession delayed retirement for many Americans is creating substantial pent-up demand for new retirement homes in Florida,” he explained.

But it’s not just retirement-aged adults that want to move to Florida, or move up to better homes.

“We expect to see some improvement in the job market in 2010, which will spur improvement in new home sales across the board,” Metheny said.

University Club of Orlando Eyes Growth in 2010, Cites "Tree House Effect" in Nationwide Trend

ORLANDO, Fla. --- The University Club of Orlando expects its membership growth to top five to 10 percent next year, as part of a nationwide trend called the “Tree House Effect.”

Susan Greene, general manager of the University Club of Orlando, was invited to address more than 100 members of the Professional Club Marketing Association (PCMA) at the Portofino Hotel recently, and she had good news for the group.

The Tree House Effect, Greene explained, is a reflection of the recessionary downturn.

“Kids all have tree houses,” Greene explained. “They are places where we retreat when things are bad. Professional clubs provide that same sort of reassuring safe place for adults, and in fact nationwide figures show that member use of professional clubs, athletic clubs, country clubs and similar safe places is increasing as the economy continues to effect us,” Greene said.

“It’s a very natural response and it is a healthy strategy for adults,” Greene explained.

“Social networking is the most important strategy we can use when we need to enrich our lives,” Greene said. “We go to those places where we’ll feel secure, but also where we will meet contacts and circulate,” she said.
