Auction and Cocktail Party to Benefit Volusia/Flagler Rescued Hearts Animal Shelter, Saturday March 20

ORMOND BEACH – A silent auction and cocktail party to raise funds for a local animal rescue group will be held Saturday March 20 in Ormond Beach.

The 2nd annual Spring Cocktail Party and Silent Auction – a benefit for the future Rescued Hearts Animal Shelter Inc. – will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the home of members Jerry and Denise Siennicki in The Trails, according to Amy Wade-Carotenuto, the group’s founder and executive director.

“We’re very excited that the Siennickis are hosting this event for us,” Wade-Carotenuto said.

“This will help us so much in our efforts to reach our goal for 2010 of finding and buying the land to build the Rescued Hearts Animal Shelter.”

Rescued Hearts, a 501C(3) non-profit agency that organized in 2007 to help find homes for displaced or neglected animals in Volusia and Flagler counties, places dogs and cats in foster homes until they are adopted or until their “state-of-the-art-with-heart” shelter is built, she said.

The agency’s short-term goal is to obtain land in the west Volusia area and construct a facility to help decrease local government’s cost to house unwanted animals.

“This kind of thing is usually started by people who have money. Unfortunately, we’re not independently wealthy but experienced and hopeful,” Carotenuto said.

The group’s other aims are at establishing an aggressive spay/neuter program, helping animals stay at home to prevent the need for surrendering them, community involvement, and providing superior care and quality of life for animals.

Those attending Saturday’s benefit can partake of scrumptious foods created by award-winning chef Kevin Moore of Moore Fine Foods, and cocktails from a deck overlooking the Tomoka River.
A highlight of the evening will be a silent auction of artwork and gifts, including Disney World tickets, and a framed, limited-edition lithograph by Thomas Kinkade.

Tickets are $25 per person and all proceeds will be designated for the group’s Property Acquisition Fund. Reservations for the event can be made by calling Judy Thompson at 386-252-1050. For details on Rescued Hearts visit www.rescuedheartsanimalshelter.com.
